Review of ILLUSIA 2011, by Lex Schoppi photo: Zakary Belamy

MAGIC: SURPRISING AND WONDERFUL, by Fredrik Pålsson, Sydsvenskan

"If there is one thing Malin Nilsson and Jörgen Thorsson know how to do, is it to surprise. Now when they return to the Skillinge Theatre under the name The Monkey Opera they perform a show that exploits the art of magic’s all clichés, while at the same time with wild humor turns the traditional art up side down… It is extremely funny and with a very special way of speaking to the audience…

The show is unbelieveble. And wonderful."

About THE MONKEY OPERA "Crazy show where everything is for sale", YA 2010

“No summer without variety-magic-show at the Theatre of Skillinge. Previous years magician Malin Nilsson and multi-artist Jörgen Thorsson have had great success in different constellations and the audience has demanded extra shows and seats, to still the cravings for high class, crazy and noisy multi-entertainment.

The shows have been outstanding and obviously hard to top year after year, but once again Malin and Jörgen have put their heads together and both cut down on ambition, but in the same time aims higher and further away then ever! And it sounds remarkable, but when it comes to these two, everything is and a meeting with them is a show in it self…”

Review of The Monkey Opera, by Phil Van Tee, The Magic Castle 2010

“I rarely wax fanatic over any particular show at the Castle. They are almost always good. And this week, every room, every show, every act is easily a winner. That said, please do yourself a HUGE favor and experience the wickedly charming and irreverent duo in the Palace this week.

Malin Nilsson, and Jorgen Thorson present laugh out loud dark comedy, Grand-Guignol style theatrics, delightfully choreographed variety, juggling and manipulation with lots of little surprises interwoven therein, BAWDY hand shadows, extremely original takes on classic magic, live music, and excellent staging. It’s “The NO Show” meets Tim Burton, and so much more.

When you see me at the Castle, ask me in person about the show, and see if it doesn’t read big time on my face just how enamored I was with these two. And, no offense Jorgen, to your myriad music, voice, and bi-lingual talents, but Malin is about the prettiest lady I have ever seen to bring such naughty fun to our stage. Whew!”

"EVEN MORE CHAOS AND MADNESS", review of Magic:Unplugged, YA 2009

”I thought that Malin Nilsson and her crew had reached the peak of madness in the last year’s show at Skillinge Theatre. I was wrong…this show has just one ambition and that is to take everything as far as possible. There is a complete chaos on stage, from beginning to end, like a wild party that has gone to far, and there are no limits and no holding back! I love it. I laughed so I literally cried and I haven’t done that since the show last year. Book now!"

"CRAZY AND UNEXPECTED", review of Magic:Unplugged, SKD 2009

”And just like before she astonished her audience and got them to turn in their seats of laughter. But it is not the magic tricks in themselves that makes Malin unusual and extraordinary. No, it is the way she uses her knowledge. It doesn’t look like anybody else…”
“Markus Zink was completely outrageous and I haven’t seen anything like it before. There is probably no other artist in the world who, even closes, can do the things he does.”

THE UNPLUGGED MAGIC OF MALIN article about the non conventional show Magic:Unplugged

"The sun is shining on Skillinge Theatres backyard. That is pretty much the only thing that is easy to describe, and that sticks to the conventions this afternoon. The show of Magic:Unplugged didn’t do that. A gigantic rabbit waves at us when we arrive to the theatre. – The Rabbit, yes, he grew up outside Tjernobyl. We are against nuclear power, you would understand if you had to live with him every day…”

THE MAGIC OF MALIN, by Jaq Greenspoon, Magic Magazine, USA

"Making a Smoked Herring Swim: The audience is not sure where she's going, but her stage presence dosen't give them the option of turning away…"

THE MADNESS OF MALIN, review "Magic:Unplugged" 2008

”It’s exciting, insane, hilarious and poetic – it’s in short; a bloody good show! I can’t understand why on earth they decided to give only three shows during the whole summer! In the moment of writing there’s only two shows left and it is sad to know that not more people will get the opportunity to experience great art just a couple of meters in front of us.”

The cover of Ystads Allehanda, review of "Magic:Unplugged" 2008

”On an international level – On the stage in Magic:Unplugged there are two outrages lunatics, a two meter tall rabbit and then Malin Nilsson herself of course. “The show holds a high international standard”, writes Robert Dahlström, the culture editor of YA.”

"DER MAGISHE TROLL AUS SCHWEDEN" article about Malin's magic in the German Magic Magazine, Magishe Welt:

Review of ”Magic:Unplugged” in Pegasus - the premiere magic magazine in Scandinavia

”Malins latest show ”Magic:Unplugged” opened at Skillinge Theatre in June this year. Åke Hallberg with colleagues drove 500 kilometres to see the show. “If it was worth the long drive? Yes!!” he writes, and continues “The show featured, for example, experimental magic, living goldfish, giant cards (the deck was 5 feet high) and a shadow act. The ovations from the audience, that never seem to end, showed that they had had a great experience!”

Review of ”As Soon As Impossible” in the British magic magazine

"This is a far from conventional magic show. It might more accurately be seen as a theatrical celebration of variety and magical arts, both old and new (…) I felt the “standards” paled next to Nilsson’s witty and original creations.

Nonetheless, this was a triumph of magical theatre, combining strong visuals with a rich variety of entertaining deceptions. Nilsson brings plenty of fresh, radical thinking to what a magic show can be, and the response from the sell-out crowd suggests her vision is as popular as inventive.”

Reportage i Sydsvenska Dagbladet

“It was in February this year she, for the first time, entered a magic competition, and won. Malin became the first women ever to win the Swedish Championship in Magic, for “a personal, poetic and well choreographed act, blending classic magic with juggling”. According to the judges it was, none the less, in the best line up in many years.”
